WELCOME!

An online course teaching you the essentials of Equine Assisted Therapy as part of a curriculum in "Psychodynamic Equine Assisted Traumatherapy", in short pEATT.

What does this mean?

You may be a licensed Psychotherapist - a Traumatherapist - a Counselor - a Socialworker - a Teacher - or anybody else working with people and wanting to work with horses. Or you are a Horse Professional of any capacity, wanting to work with horses in a different capacity other than what you have been doing so far. And therefore you want to learn about Equine Assisted Services.

You have done your research, come across many different types of models and approachesn, and now you are here and you are reading: "This course is for everyone". How can that be?

From my perspective, there are core elements that are inherent to any equine assisted/facilitated model: techniques that prove helpful when working with horses - core knowledge about processes - and last but definitely not least: knowledge about horses. And that is what it is all about when we have equines who we are working with.

In this course, you will learn those core and essential elements and will be presented with fundamental knowledge. And that is why this course is for everyone who is interested in this field - and even those who are already working in it.

In this course, you will notice my background: I am a Clinical Psychologist in Depth Psychology with specialization in Traumatherapy, working with equines primarily with a population that has been diagnosed with complex PTS(d). My language is at times psychological, the framework I work in is bound by the ethics set forth by my licensing board. Some of you might be put off by that - and then this course is simply not for you. I do believe that anybody wishing to work with trauma needs to know the core elements, even though they are rooted in (Depth) Psychology.

If you decide to enroll, there are several options opening up for you:

  1. Whether you come from the Equine World or the Mental Health World, you may wish to pursue certification in pEATT: pEATT is a model that has been developed in the work with active duty/veteran service members diagnosed with combat related PTS(d). It has been and is being researched and has been found an effective and valid treatment approach. Getting certified in pEATT comes with certain requirements primarily for the Mental Health person. The entire curriculum teaches you how to incorporate horses as part of your treatment in Traumatherapy, including Traumaconfrontations - pEATT does NOT teach you Traumatherapy nor how to work with horses in general.
  2. Maybe you come form the Mental Health World or the Equine World but are not a certified traumatherapist - and yet still wish to learn the fundaments of equine assisted Traumatherapy to be able to accompany people in their stabilization when suffering from PTS(d) symptoms. If that is the case, the entire online pEATT Module 1 (consisting of 2 parts) and the experiential, face to face live training Module 2 will teach you exactly that.
  3. Whether you come for the Mental Health World or the Equine World, you may wish to only learn the essentials described above, and then pursue a different approach. I am in cooperation with another teaching agency, MiMer Centre, who offers courses and who has agreed to accredit what you will learn in this Module 1. You can read more about MiMer Centre's course under "What is EATIC".

I have made the sections: "Information: Course Structure, Course Elements, etc" and "What is EATIC?" public, so you can read a bit more about that.

I hope this answers your preliminary question and that this stirs your curiosity to learn more.
